Fitting the reflective dog seat belt

Click the tongue into the buckle, clip the other end to the harness, then shorten the strap until your dog can lie down but not reach the front seats.

When reflective actually helps

Reflective material does not glow. It returns light from a source, in practice car headlights, so it is genuinely useful on unlit roads and largely decorative in daylight. ⚠ Always clip to a harness, never a collar.
In a sudden stop a collar concentrates the entire stopping force on your dog’s neck. A harness spreads it across the chest and shoulders. If your dog only wears a collar, add a car harness before using any tether.

Care and storage

Wipe the webbing with a damp cloth and let it dry naturally. Avoid tumble dryers and radiators, as heat weakens webbing. Check the clip and stitching every few months and replace the tether if you see fraying or a bent clip.

It suits small and medium dogs and clips to any harness with a back attachment ring. The reflective thread runs the full length of the webbing rather than being a printed strip, so it will not flake off with washing.

Common questions

Does the reflective coating wear off? Not on this one. The reflectivity comes from thread woven into the webbing, not a surface print, so it survives washing and general abrasion far better than coated straps.

Is it bright enough to replace a hi-vis coat? No, and it is not meant to. This helps a driver pick you out when headlights hit you at the roadside. If you walk on unlit lanes regularly, a reflective harness or coat covers far more surface area and is the better buy for the walk itself.

Can I leave it clipped in? Yes, most owners leave it attached to the buckle and clip the dog on when they get in. It packs flat against the seat when not in use.

Will it fit a puppy? Yes, provided the puppy wears a properly fitted harness. Do not tether a puppy by the collar under any circumstances.
