A dog hammock covers the bit a seat cover misses

A flat back seat cover protects the seat. It does nothing about the footwell, which is
where a wet dog puts its feet, where the mud collects, and where a dog slides when you brake.
A vehicle dog hammock hangs between the front and rear headrests so the
footwell is covered too, turning the back of your car into one sealed, washable box.

It also stops a dog dropping into the footwell on a hard stop. That is not a substitute
for restraint, and this cover does not restrain your dog. Pair it with a
dog seat belt or the
heavy-duty version if your dog pulls.

Measurements, so you can check it fits

Most listings for a dog car hammock do not publish dimensions. Here are
ours. Measure the gap between your front and rear headrests before ordering.

The 135 cm front flap is the number that matters. It suits most family cars, estates
and SUVs. In a very wide pickup bench you may find the side flaps sit short.

Fitting it

Three steps, no tools.

1. Snap the straps over the two rear headrests, then the two front headrests.
2. Tuck the seat anchors down into the crease where the seat back meets the base. This is
   the step people skip, and it is what stops the whole thing sliding forward.
3. Open the seat belt slits if anyone is travelling in the back alongside the dog.

The side flaps tuck against the doors. Most owners leave them out, which is what saves
the door cards from claw marks when a dog gets excited at the end of a journey.

Hammock or boot liner?

It depends where your dog travels, and the answer is not the same for everyone.

If your dog rides on the back seat, you want this
hammock for car for dogs. If your dog rides in the
boot, you want a boot liner instead,
which covers the boot floor and up the sides.

Buying both is only worth it if you switch between the two. They do different jobs and
neither replaces the other.

Cleaning

Shake it out, then wipe with a damp cloth for everyday mud. For a proper wash, take it off
and hose it down or put it through a cold machine wash, then hang to dry. Do not tumble dry
— heat is what kills the waterproof backing on any quilted cover.

What it will not do

It is not a restraint. Under Rule 57 of the Highway Code your dog must be
suitably restrained in a vehicle, and a cover does not satisfy that on its own — see
what the law actually says.

It is not a bed. There is padding, but a dog that sleeps the whole way will be more
comfortable on a blanket on top.

And it is not invisible. A quilted black cover across your back seat looks like a quilted
black cover across your back seat. If your car is a showpiece, this is not for you.
