Description

A dog nail grinder for dogs who hate the clippers

Some dogs will never sit still for clippers. The snap is sudden and they remember it. A dog nail grinder files the nail down gradually instead, which most nervous dogs tolerate far better once they are used to the hum.

Why grinding is harder to get wrong

Clippers remove a chunk in one go. If you misjudge, you hit the quick. A grinder takes off a fraction of a millimetre at a time, so you can stop the moment the nail centre starts to change colour. It also leaves a smooth edge rather than a sharp one, which is kinder on your floors and your legs.

What you get

  • USB rechargeable — no batteries to buy
  • Quiet motor, which matters more than any other feature for a nervous dog
  • Three port sizes for small, medium and large nails
  • Two speeds for thin and thick nails

Introducing it properly

Do not grind on day one. Turn it on near your dog, reward, turn it off. Next day, touch it to a paw without grinding. Reward. Grind one nail on day three. Rushing this is the single reason grinders end up in a drawer.

Technique

Hold the grinder against the nail for two to three seconds at a time, then lift. Constant contact heats the nail and your dog will feel it. Work around the tip, not straight into the centre.

⚠ Go gently the first few times.
Most dogs need a couple of short sessions to accept a new grooming tool. Keep it brief, reward often, and stop before your dog gets fed up — a calm two minutes beats a stressful ten.
